NEWBURY, Vt. (WCAX) - A first responder was arrested after crashing on the way to the scene of an active incident.
Vermont State Police say volunteer firefighter Andrew Hayward, 20, of Wells River, had his emergency warning lights on in his truck and was heading to an active incident around 10 p.m. Friday night.
He was driving down Boltonville Road in Newbury when police say he didn’t stop at a stop sign when reaching Route 302. He crashed with another car.
The driver of that car, a 53-year-old Roxbury woman, was taken to the hospital for suspected minor injuries.
Hayward was arrested for negligent operation and will appear in court in August.
