BURLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) - The War of 1812 came to Burlington on this day in history.

Battery Park is one of Burlington’s most scenic spots, with sweeping views of Lake Champlain and the Adirondacks. But during the war of 1812, this spot served as a major encampment for the U.S. Army.

The park gets its name from the cannons that pointed out over the lake and on June 13, 1813, those cannons were used to repel a British naval attack.
